Filling the Gap
In general container insulation is used to fill the gap between:
A) Dry Freight Container whose internal temperature rises and falls dramatically.
B) A Fully Insulated Container/Reefer where the repositioning/empty running costs, added to the high capital costs, makes its use uncompetitive.
It is also used to increase the professional feel of care and quality when shipping high value items of cargoes where it is critical that they remain clean and dust free. In some cases container insulation material has enabled cargoes to be shipped in standard Steel Containers where they have previously only been carried in Refrigerated Containers.
Factors Influencing Product Temperature:
Rate of heat loss / gain will vary dependent on the temperature difference between product and ambient during transit.
Container colour - lighter colours will reduce solar gainby up to 30%
Container position and exposure on deck / below deck/ in a stack
Correct installation of the insulation / Product loading temperature.
Product packaging. Transit Time.
